Alty are straight back in action following the disappointment of Wednesday night's home defeat to Solihull Moors, looking for a quick bounce back and a positive result at The J.Davidson Stadium.
There was no happy homecoming for Altrincham, as they played second fiddle to a slick-moving Solihull Moors side and suffered another potentially serious injury setback on their return to The J.Davidson Stadium.
After seven straight away games, Alty had every intention of making home advantage count, but high-riding Solihull had other ideas, as they scored twice in the first half and generally contained all the Robins' efforts to get back into it and reduce the arrears.
As a further worry for manager Phil Parkinson, whose attacking options were already restricted by the injury-enforced absence of Fisayo Adarabioyo and Yusifu Ceesay, the dangerous Dan Mooney pulled up with what looked like a hamstring problem in the opening minutes.
Speaking with Brian Flynn after the game, Phil Parkinson praised the Robins' second half endeavour but accepted that Alty aren't firing on all cylinders when it comes to the final third - something that his and Neil Sorvel's teams have always had no problem with.
"We're probably lacking that little bit of inspiration and I think it's there for somebody to take the bull by the horns and become the main man. If they can't, then obviously I've got to look to address that."
Yesterday we announced a 'triple swoop' of new additions to the squad.
Andy Dales joins on loan from Scunthorpe United - Phil Parkinson & Neil Sorvel have been admirers of the winger from his time at Mickleover.
Alistair Smith joins on loan from Mansfield Town - the 21 year old midfielder, who can also play in the number 10 role, has spent all of his career with The Stags but did play against Alty when on loan at Kettering Town last season.
Jamie McDonald joins the Robins on non-contract terms from City of Liverpool - the 27 year old striker rose to prominence at Warrington Town & scored the goal in added time for The Yellows that knocked the Robins out of the FA Trophy in 2017.
The quick action to bring players into the squad will certainly aid Alty's injury woes. The Robins could be without as many as eight first team players this afteroon: Sean Williams, Toby Mullarkey, Simon Richman, Andy White, Yusifu Ceesay, Dan Mooney, Ritchie Sutton and Fisayo Adarabioyo are all doubtful or ruled-out of today's clash.
Aldershot come into the game on the back of an impressive victory over Notts County last weekend. Today's visitors 12th in the National League table, and also hold an impressive 5-0 away victory at Dover on their record.
They report that:
"Lewis Kinsella’s MCL injury will keep him side-lined until Spring 2021. Ross McCormack and Alex Finney are working towards full fitness again after picking up strains during recent games.
New loan signing from Middlesbrough, Brad James started against Notts County and will compete with Mitch Walker for the Shots goalkeeping jersey whilst at the club.
Aldershot Town Manager Danny Searle has added further to his playing squad this week, with the loan signing of Winger Joseph Hungbo from Watford and a short-term contract for previously unattached Striker Mike Fondop, who last played for Chesterfield, scoring 10 goals in 29 games last season."
