Altrincham’s pre-season travels take them across the sea this time to the Isle of Man as we face an Isle of Man XI on Saturday afternoon at 5pm at The Bowl in Douglas.

Thanks to Director Lawrence Looney, who resides in the Isle of Man, Alty make the trip over for their third pre-season friendly following victories at Rhyl and Kidsgrove Athletic in the last week.

Managed by Paul Jones, the Isle of Man team will provide a stern test for the Robins and they come off a goalless draw with Welsh side Connah’s Quay, who qualified for the Europa League.

Phil Parkinson will field a more experienced team for this match as more of his first team squad are available with only Shaun Densmore, Ben Harrison, James Poole and Tony Thompson unable to participate here.

It is expected that a good contingent of Robins’ fans will be travelling, with tickets for adults being priced at just £3 on the gates.

The squad for the match is:

Goalkeepers: Callum Roberts, Matthew Johnston

Defenders: Connor Hampson, Andy White, James Jones, Tom Hannigan, Liam Goulding, Harry Sheridan

Midfielders: Jake Moult, Simon Richman, Max Harrop, Sean Williams, Josh Hancock

Forwards: John Johnston, Jordan Hulme, Elliot Rokka, Sean Miller, Tom Peers

There will be live text commentary right here on the official club website so tune in if you cannot make the journey over!

A comprehensive win in the Isle of Man made it three wins from their opening three for Alty. Thanks to a hat-trick by Jordan Hulme, and goals from Sean Miller, Elliot Rokka and Tom Peers, the visitors picked up a comfortable win.

The match started with a fast and frenetic tempo saw both teams trade early shots as the play went from end to end. That suited Phil Parkinson’s men however as they had the extra touch of quality in advanced areas and they opened the scoring on 8 minutes as a bright Sean Miller shot into the corner.

Alty then took control of the game and Jordan Hulme scored twice in a four-minute period – the first taking advantage of a goalkeeping error, and the second coming after a lovely through ball by Sean Miller.

The visitors had control of the match as the first half played out, and even a number of substitutions at the half-time break did not halt their dominance.

After returning from his spell with the New Orleans Jesters just the night before, Tom Peers overcame jet lag to get on the scoresheet and add a fourth for Alty on 67 minutes, but prior to that we also saw the eagerly-awaited return of Ben Harrison from injury to get his first minutes of pre-season.

Alty continued to control the game and added two late goals through Elliot Rokka and Jordan Hulme who grabbed his hat-trick goal and made it five goals in his last two matches.

There were plenty of positives to take from the game as Ben Harrison made his long-awaited return from injury, Sean Miller looked sharp, new signings Liam Goulding and Sean Williams had good run outs, and trialist Elliot Rokka looked a threat out wide. A big thanks goes to the Isle of Man FA who were excellent hosts and credit to their players who showed plenty of desire and determination against an in-form Altrincham side.

Phil Parkinson’s men will face a step up in quality of their opponent on Tuesday night when they welcome Macclesfield Town to the J Davidson Stadium and we hope to see you there.
