Back to the league we go. Altrincham travel to Hartlepool United this evening and it will need to be a quick turnaround from Sunday’s cup tie, for a fourth consecutive away game.
Sunday saw the Robins fall to a 2-1 defeat at AFC Fylde’s Mill Farm, bowing out of the Emirates FA Cup in the 4th Qualifying Round. It had to be Jordan Hulme who put the Coasters ahead, capitalising on a mix up at the back. His opener came just before half time and the hosts’ lead was doubled less than ten minutes after the restart, Ben Tollitt was given plenty of time and space to finish past Tony Thompson.
There was a quick reply though, Tom Peers opened his account for the season converting a low cross at the front post - and the introduction of Dan Mooney into the game lifted Altrincham by a level or two for the remainder of the tie, but the end result was a fair one.
Reflecting on the performance at full-time, Phil Parkinson spoke with Brian Flynn:
“We made a poor decision at the wrong time in the game, that allowed a situation to occur. We do encourage the lads to play from the back but it was just the wrong situation to do that in and it cost us at the end of the first half.”
Rotation may be key for Altrincham tonight given the game takes place just over 48 hours on. It remains to be seen just how much Parkinson and Sorvel look to change things, but Robins fans will be eager to see what new signing Fisayo Adarabioyo can do, and he is in contention this evening having been cup-tied on Sunday.
Where Alty exited the Cup this past weekend, Hartlepool produced an emphatic 6-0 away victory at Ilkeston Town. Six goals, six scorers in the form of Luke Molyneux, Joe Grey, Tom Crawford, Mason Bloomfield, David Parkhouse and Gavan Holohan.
Pools are enjoying an unbeaten start to their Vanarama National League campaign, too. They’ve beaten Maidenhead, Chesterfield and Aldershot. Their most recent league game was a draw with Bromley, and they subsequently sit third in the table.

FT - Hartlepool 1-1 Altrincham. A well deserved point for the Robins based on their fighting second half display. Not helped by two injuries to Toby Mullarkey and Simon Richman, Parky's men showed great fight in the second half to earn a point. Matty Kosylo missed a golden chance with an injury-time spot kick but that was superbly saved. Still, plenty of positives to take for the Robins and on to Dover this Saturday!
94' Hartlepool have a free kick right on the edge of the box....Ferguson shoots just over!
Penalty to Alty! Joel Senior is brought down as the defender catches him racing into the box. Matty Kosylo steps up and......it is saved. A superb save by Killip
7 added minutes!
In fairness, it is nothing more than we have deserved in this second half as the lads have been fired up and really put a shift in. Hartlepool have become a bit disjointed with their substitutions and we're looking the better side now
85' Corner to Alty.....cleared but swung back in and there is Ritchiieeeeee Sutton to make it Hartlepool 1-1 Alty!
83' Tom Hannigan is now down after a shot hits him in the face. Thankfully he is up and can continue
81' Free kick to Alty but Tom Peers shoots well over from 35 yards
80' Final change for the home side as Gavan Holohan is replaced by Tom Crawford
Alty are enjoying a fine spell right now having stepped up the intensity
73' Booking for Hartlepool keeper Killip as he handballs outside his area. Fair to say it was accidental but a booking nonetheless. A free kick on the right around 25 yards out with Dan Mooney stood over it
68' Tom Peers plays Joel Senior into the box and his driven cross is almost turned in by a Hartlepool defender. Corner to Alty which is turned back in at the far post but straight into the keepers' arms
67' Parkhouse comes off for Mason Bloomfield for the hosts
65' Simon Richman is stretchered off with Matty Kosylo coming on for him
63' David Parkhouse is also booked for a previous foul
62' Ringo is now down clutching his left ankle.....which again does not look good. Joel Senior is meanwhile booked
60' Change for Alty as Hancock is replaced by Mooney while the hosts bring on Claudio Ofosu for Luke Molyneux
59' Odusina has his studs high and catches Adarabioyo but the referee refuses to give what seems like a cast-iron booking which would have seen the defender dismissed
Alty are definitely committing more men forward now which is leaving some spaces in midfield but the lads are going for it
52' Corner to Hartlepool....which goes over everybody and out for an Alty goal kick
Tom Peers is playing much closer to Fis Adarabioyo in the first few minutes of this second half
Alty were out for the second half nice and early, and Parky will have them raring to go here. The second half is underway
HT: Hartlepool 1-0 Altrincham
2 minutes of added time
43' Molineux cuts in from the right for the hosts and his scuffed effort is saved down low by Tony Thompson
Yusifu Ceesay has been a real positive for Alty in this first half and our main threat going forward. He is looking sharper with every game and has terrorised Hartlepool's defence so far
41' Odusina is booked for bringing down Ceesay
39' A good break by the Robins through Ceesay culminates in a shot for Tom Peers which is well blocked and out for another corner. Moulty brings the ball down at the far post but his looped cross back in goes to the hosts' keeper
33' Corner for Hartlepool sees a header come in from Molineux and Tony saves well, with the resulting threat cleared. The defensive change has just unsettled Alty and the lads could do with a spell of possession to rebuild
30' Hartlepool 1-0 Altrincham. The cross from Ferguson on the left sees Parkhouse steal in at the near post and flick home
The resulting free kick from all of 30 yards is drilled straight into the wall
29' Ritchie Sutton comes on for Toby Mullarkey
27' Mullarkey concedes a free kick and he is down for a couple of minutes with a knock. He is being helped off the pitch with what could be an ankle injury. It is looking unlikely he will be able to continue
25' Booking for Molineux who is late on a challenge on Yusifu Ceesay
19' Yusifu Ceesay races down the left and keeps the ball in ahead of the Hartlepool defender, and then earns another corner. Hancock's corner is cleared at the near post
15' The hosts have an effort from outside the box through Molineux and Thompson saves very well down low to his left to tipped the ball round for a corner. The short corner comes to nothing
Another nice move sees Alty earn another corner as Simon Richman runs into the right channel after a nice move and his cross is blocked. The driven corner is again headed away but this is a bright spell for Alty
10' Toby Mullarkey roams forward and takes a shot from 25-30 yards which is deflected over the bar. Corner to Alty. Josh Hancock's far post cross is headed away
The Robins are settling into the game increasingly with some good possession now
Some early pressure from the hosts and Tony Thompson is called into action but the danger is cleared
Jake Moult gets us under way....
The two teams are out on the pitch and ready to kick off
The hosts make that FIVE changes from the FA Cup win on Saturday. IN: Killip, Odusina, Shelton, Donaldson and Parkhouse. OUT: Ravas, Liddle, Crawford, Grey and Bloomfield
Subs: Ravas, Crawford, Grey, Bloomfield, Ofosu
Hartlepool United XI: Killip, Cass, Ferguson, Odusina, Johnson, Shelton, Featherstone, Holohan, Molyneux, Donaldson, Parkhouse
Subs: Kosylo, Mooney, Hampson, Sutton, Densmore
Alty start with Thompson; Senior, Mullarkey, Hannigan, White; Moult, Richman; Peer, Hancock, Ceesay; Adarabioyo
Good evening and welcome from the Super 6 Stadium!
