Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from all at Altrincham FC - hopefully you all had a great day yesterday, and our attention now turns to some traditional Boxing Day football against a local 'rival' from across the M60, it's the visit of Stockport County to The J. Davidson Stadium.
Whether it be the recent National League North encounters with both sides setting their sights on promotion, or the FA Cup and Trophy ties, there always seems to be a lot on the line when Alty and Stockport lock horns. It's always an occasion to be savoured, and what a shame it is that we can't welcome fans of both clubs to the game today, for what would undoubtedly have been an electric atmosphere with thousands in attendance.
The Hatters have dominated this fixture, winning each of the last five competitive games without conceding. The Robins last beat Stockport on 24th August 2013, two goals from Damian Reeves and one from James Walshaw in a 3-0 victory.
To be 6th at Christmas is a superb achievement for Alty, especially given the breaks in playing and the tough start to life back at National League level. Of course, we have to remember that there are a host of sides that remain with games in hand, including County themselves, so today will be a good opportunity for Altrincham to make a big statement as recognised contenders.
Stockport ticked one of their games in hand off back on the 22nd, falling to a 4-0 defeat at Hartlepool United. Ash Palmer and John Rooney were dismissed in the first and second half respectively.
