Altrincham Ladies v Liverpool Marshall Feds Reserves match preview

Altrincham FC Ladies welcome league leaders Liverpool Marshall Feds Reserves for a top of the league clash at Mersey Valley on Sunday, where Altrincham will look to start the new year by getting back to winning ways.

The visitors come into this match flying high after beating Wythenshawe 11-0 before the short break. The Feds have proven to be a solid team this season, only losing on three occasions however. One of which was when Altrincham travelled to Liverpool earlier this season and beat them 2-1 thanks to goals from Jess Hartopp and Shannon Billington.

Altrincham will be eager to show what they are capable of after a frustrating 1-0 loss to Didsbury Ladies in the last league game before the break. The Lady Robins started the season brilliantly, and finds themselves joint second in the league while they know a win here will see them overtake Liverpool Marshall Feds Reserves at the top with a win on Sunday.

The clashes between these two teams have proved to be competitive and tight in recent games, with one win each and a draw in the last three matchups with the games ending 2-1, 2-2 and 2-1. Last year, the match at Mersey Valley ended in a 2-2 draw.

“It’s going to be a hard match. Most players are back from injuries, apart from a couple long-term injuries for Shannon Billington and Kye Brown. We must play like we know we can. It’s going to be a tight game, but if we do so we should be able to nick it. We really want to start the second half of the season with a win,” says Keith Edleston ahead of Sunday’s match.

It is a 2pm kick off at Mersey Valley Sports Club, and we look forward to welcoming you all to cheer on the Ladies as they try to come out winners on what is going to be an excellent match.
