Altrincham supporter John Henderson is taking part in a sponsored walk for the Alzheimer's Society. The walk has an Alty theme and the club has agreed to make the home fixture against York on 17th November as an Alzheimer Society Charity day. Part of that will see Julie and John presenting the framed shirts back to the clubs as a memento.
Alzheimer’s Society is encouraging us all to be 'United Against Dementia' so, Vanarama National League rivals York City FC and Altrincham FC are doing just that by helping raise sponsorship for the charity.
Both live in York where Julie was born, while John grew up in Altrincham. Proud Yorkist Julie will be wearing the red and white stripes of Altrincham, whilst lifelong Alty supporter John will don a City shirt - both for the full 26 miles of the trek.
Julie has received her Altrincham shirt from Club captain Jake Moult and John was given his York City top from Foundation Manager, Paula Stainton.
The duo aim to raise more than £1,000 by walking the iconic Wall on 11th August.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
“I have decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my late Dad who lived with the condition. I did something similar a few years ago when I went to China. The club has also agreed for us to hold a collection at the home game vs FC United of Manchester a week on Tuesday.”
Julie added: “It’s great to think that we’ll be raising funds to help support people living with dementia now and to fund research to one day find a cure.”
Alzheimer's Society, Community Fundraiser Stephanie Larkin welcomed Julie and John’s decision to help raise money for the charity saying: “It’s wonderful that Julie and John are giving their time to support Alzheimer’s Society. Dementia devastates lives, but dementia won’t win. Until the day we find a cure we will be here for anyone affected by dementia, where they are, whatever they’re going through. We need more people like John and Julie to join us now and unite against dementia.
