Bradford (Park Avenue) v Altrincham match preview

ALTY head to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday afternoon (3pm) with the Robins looking to bounce back from two defeats on the bounce.

Manager Phil Parkinson was disappointed with his side's efforts off the ball in the home defeat to Curzon Ashton last weekend and will be looking for much improvement against a Bradford side that have started the season in fine form.

The boss will be able to welcome new signings Joe Thompson and Ross Woodcock into the squad and their availability will come as a welcome boost with several players still struggling with injury.

Top scorer Jordan Hulme is now available from suspension but is a doubt for the game after picking up an ailment, whilst James Poole is still struggling with the groin problem that saw him miss the Curzon Ashton game so could be missing for the second game in succession. Andy White did return to training on Tuesday after a virus knocked him out last week and he should be in contention on the plus side.

Saturday's opponents Bradford come into the game in fine form and sit in third heading into the fixture. Their games have been extremely entertaining affairs so far, with them scoring 15 goals and conceding 14 in the process, and they will be looking for a strong performance in front of their own fans after a 5-3 defeat at Chester last weekend.

Boss Mark Bower took charge in September 2016 and the former Bradford City defender led his side to safety in his first season before leading them to the play-offs last campaign. He has previous at this level, having led Guiseley to the National League in his three seasons at that club and he was in charge of Guiseley for a certain play-off match against Alty back in 2014.

His side have plenty of experience in their side, with midfielder Nicky Wroe still a quality player at this level having been a creative outlet for the likes of Torquay United and FC Halifax Town over the years. The experienced Danny Boshell occupies the same joint assistant manager-player role that worked to good effect with Bower during their time at Guiseley, whilst former Norwich City striker Oli Johnson is another that has linked up with Bower and Boshell again and provides a threat up front.

The hosts also have in their squad former Alty favourite Nicky Clee, who made over 260 league appearances in his seven years at Moss Lane and Gianluca Havern who made 133 appearances himself for the Robins.

Last meeting:

The Robins faced Bradford on two occasions during the 2016-17 campaign. The last meeting came in March 2017 and saw goals from Oli Johnson and Matt Hill earn a 2-1 victory for Bradford, with Elliot Newby scoring the Alty goal and also being sent off later in the game.

Supporter information:

Travelling Robins fans should note that Northern Rail are involved in strike action on Saturday, which will disrupt train travel on the day.

There aren't too many issues with the journey on the way but the only train back towards Manchester after the game leaves Bradford Interchange at 6pm.

Trains from Manchester Piccadilly back to Altrincham Interchange or Navigation Road are also not running upon return from Bradford, but supporters do have the Metrolink as an alternative there.
