The news from Phil Parkinson's squad building for next season and beyond just keeps getting better and better, with confirmation reaching us that John Johnston has now committed his future to Altrincham for the next TWO years.
Alty's flying winger was one of the first to be tied to a new deal when it was announced a fortnight ago that he and double player-of-the-year Tom Hannigan had signed on for next season.
But in a development that underlines Alty boss Parkinson's determination to keep the club moving forward, danger man Johnston has added another 12 months to his agreement, meaning he will be at The J.Davidson Stadium until the end of the 2020-21 campaign, at least.
Johnston, a hugely popular figure with supporters and team-mates alike, has made no secret of his liking for Alty and needed little persuasion to further extend his stay after discussions with the club.
Parkinson's first signing for Alty, he hit the ground running with 20 goals in all competitions in a debut season that culminated in the Robins being promoted as Evo-Stik Northern Premier League champions.
He was the scourge of opposing defenders again last season, scoring 14 goals from 41 league starts as Alty pursued a second successive promotion and reached the Vanarama National League North play-offs before going out on penalties in a semi-final cliffhanger against Chorley at Victory Park.
His commitment has never been in doubt, and he has now emphasised his allegiance to the Alty cause by pledging himself to the club for two more seasons.
