ALTRINCHAM host Guiseley this afternoon (3pm) as the Robins look to continue their terrific run of form with another National League North victory.
Phil Parkinson's side have won five league games in a row, which has seen the side climb the table from 18th to 9th & they now find themselves on the edge of the play-offs, and everybody will be hoping that this has set the tone for a positive second half of the campaign for the Robins.
They will take on a Guiseley side that head to the J. Davidson Stadium on the back of a defeat to Chester at the weekend after three victories between Boxing Day & New Year’s Day, so the Lions joint managers Marcus Bignot and Russell O'Neill will be hoping to continue their good run over the Christmas & New Year period.
The Lions' away form has been particularly impressive having last lost in October, so the West Yorkshire side seem to have a way of playing that suits them on their travels.
Striker Aaron Martin is the main man that Alty will have to watch out for, with the former Sheffield United and Barnsley youth player in prolific form so far this season after hitting 16 goals for the Lions, having signed from Brighouse Town in the summer where he scored 30 goals last season.
Both sides last met in October at Nethermoor Park, where a Josh Hancock penalty cancelled out Kaine Felix's opener for Guiseley.
4 of the last 5 games between the teams have ended in draws & the Robins last victory over Guiseley was in the never to be forgotten National League North Play-Off Final when Greg Wilkinson was introduced in the final minute of extra-time so that he could take a penalty in the impending shoot-out, which never happened as Wilkinson scored the winning goal just 22 seconds after crossing the white line!
