Match Preview | Gloucester City v Altrincham

ALTRINCHAM head to Evesham to take on  Gloucester City this afternoon (3pm) as the Robins look for a first victory of the season.

A last gasp equaliser from Chester's Gary Roberts stopped Phil Parkinson's men from claiming all three points in midweek and they will look to bounce back from the disappointment of that.

Gloucester won their opening game at Blyth Spartans before going down to Hereford on Tuesday night and the Tigers will be looking to push on after being transferred from the National League South, where they survived in dramatic fashion last season.

Current manager and former player Mike Cook was largely responsible for their change in fortunes, with the former Coventry man taking charge in January and results improving dramatically during his tenure so far.

The club are currently playing their games 24 miles from Gloucester at Evesham United's ground in the neighbouring county of Worcestershire and have played away from the city of Gloucester for over a decade after problems caused by floods in the city back in 2007.

However, they have recently received permission to build a new ground on the site of their former Meadow Park home and this will provide a big boost to football in the local area.

The Tigers have a couple of former EFL players in former Bristol City and Port Vale winger Jennison Myrie-Williams and big front man Marlon Jackson, and both are very much capable at causing problems at this level.

The two sides last met back in January 2017 when Joe Parker's strike saw the Worcestershire side come away with a 1-0 win at the J. Davidson Stadium.
