One big game and a couple of moves in our midweek round-up

Email

Only one game took place in the Vanarama National League North last night (Tues), but what a huge game it was. Spennymoor’s 2-0 defeat to Bradford (Park Avenue) meant the two sides are now level on points, although Spennymoor remain one place above their West Yorkshire rivals on goal difference.

Bradford made it six games unbeaten with this impressive victory over one of the promotion favourites, as they went ahead midway through the first half and wrapped up the points with a second goal near the end.

It was Conor Branson who grabbed the opener in the 24th minute, smashing the ball home from close range after it deflected into his path from a free-kick.

Spennymoor went in search of an equaliser but were up against it when Scott Harrison was shown a red card for pulling back Jake Beesley as the Bradford striker bore down on goal.

Any hopes of a late comeback were finally quashed when Beesley capitalised on a poor back header to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute, sealing all three points and keeping the fight for play-off positions as exciting as ever.

In other news, only two clubs have been involved in some sort of transfer business since Saturday’s fixtures.

Brackley Town have signed Aston Villa defensive midfielder Alex Prosser on loan until the end of the season. Prosser is an exciting young talent who has featured regularly in Villa’s under-23 side this season.

Nuneaton Borough have seen two more players depart the club this week, with Aaron Birch leaving for Halesowen Town and James Baxendale for Mickleover Sports.
