Message from Altrincham FC co-chairman Bill Waterson:
Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson and full-back Shaun Densmore have not travelled to Eastleigh for today's game at the Silverlake Stadium. In separate circumstances, each has been in contact with a person in their circle who has tested positive for Covid-19.
After consultation with Rob Jackson, the club doctor, and in line with his advice, we took the responsible and necessary decision that they should not travel for this afternoon's Vanarama National League fixture.
This is purely a precautionary matter, designed to protect our players and staff and their families, and our concern for their safety and welfare will always be paramount in how we will handle any similar cases that may occur in the future.
We have to accept that, in the current climate, we are going to have to live with this sort of disruption. It is the 'new normal' manifesting itself very early in our season, but it is reassuring that we have experience of dealing with this and we know how to react and how to cope.
In the meantime, assistant-manager Neil Sorvel will take charge of the team at Eastleigh this afternoon, with Phil keeping a close eye on the game and maintaining telephone contact with the Alty bench throughout, via data analyst Mark Bushell.
Moving forward, Phil and Shaun are both being tested, prior to a decision being taken on whether they can take any part in Tuesday night's league game with Solihull Moors at The J.Davidson Stadium.
