Play-offs Update

Message from Bill Waterson, Co-Chairman

Altrincham Football Club was one of 12 Vanarama National League North & South clubs to attend an online meeting with the National League on Friday afternoon to discuss the 2019/20 season play-offs.

The agenda covered the following :-

  1. Government Guidance
  2. Return to Training
  3. Playing & Match Day
  4. Competition Rules
  5. Draft Fixture Dates

There is a lot of work to do to prepare for the play-offs & detailed planning for this begins today, with the 12 clubs working together to protect the players and officials of all impacted clubs.

The Altrincham FC Board met this afternoon to start the planning process The club is raring to go & aiming to reach the Promotion Final & then win it to reach the National League for the 2020/21 campaign.

We have to go through a formal process of testing and risk assessment and sign-off ahead of commencing training & preparing for a match, for which there are 3 stages:-

  1. Socially distanced training.
  2. Proper training.
  3. Match day preparation.

The working assumption is that all 6 National League North teams will take part in the play-offs, although it is possible that could change.

For the play-offs to take place, at least 4 of the 6 clubs must take part in each competition.

The play-off target dates for both the National League North & South are as follows:-

    • Sat/Sun 18 & 19 July : Eliminators

    • Sat/Sun 25 & 26 July : Semi-Finals

    • Sat/Sun 1 & 2 Aug  : Finals

If all 6 National League North teams compete in the play-offs then the schedule would be as follows with the first named team at home in all games:-

    Sat/Sun 18 & 19 July : Eliminators

    Brackley Town (4th) v Gateshead (7th)

    Altrincham (5th) v Chester (6th)

    Sat/Sun 25 & 26 July : Semi-Finals

York City (2nd) v Altrincham or Chester

Boston United (3rd) v Brackley Town or Gateshead

    Sat/Sun 1 & 2 Aug  : Final

Higher placed Semi-Final Winner v Lower Placed Semi-Final Winner

Teams can use players under contract at March 31st 2020

The National League are awaiting confirmation from BT Sport regarding whether the National League North & South play-off games will be televised. If any game that we are involved in is not televised, we will request that we can stream the game live, so that supporters have the opportunity to watch on television.
