Back to the league we go. Altrincham travel to Hartlepool United this evening and it will need to be a quick turnaround from Sunday’s cup tie, for a fourth consecutive away game.
Sunday saw the Robins fall to a 2-1 defeat at AFC Fylde’s Mill Farm, bowing out of the Emirates FA Cup in the 4th Qualifying Round. It had to be Jordan Hulme who put the Coasters ahead, capitalising on a mix up at the back. His opener came just before half time and the hosts’ lead was doubled less than ten minutes after the restart, Ben Tollitt was given plenty of time and space to finish past Tony Thompson.
There was a quick reply though, Tom Peers opened his account for the season converting a low cross at the front post - and the introduction of Dan Mooney into the game lifted Altrincham by a level or two for the remainder of the tie, but the end result was a fair one.
Reflecting on the performance at full-time, Phil Parkinson spoke with Brian Flynn:
“We made a poor decision at the wrong time in the game, that allowed a situation to occur. We do encourage the lads to play from the back but it was just the wrong situation to do that in and it cost us at the end of the first half.”
Rotation may be key for Altrincham tonight given the game takes place just over 48 hours on. It remains to be seen just how much Parkinson and Sorvel look to change things, but Robins fans will be eager to see what new signing Fisayo Adarabioyo can do, and he is in contention this evening having been cup-tied on Sunday.
Where Alty exited the Cup this past weekend, Hartlepool produced an emphatic 6-0 away victory at Ilkeston Town. Six goals, six scorers in the form of Luke Molyneux, Joe Grey, Tom Crawford, Mason Bloomfield, David Parkhouse and Gavan Holohan.
Pools are enjoying an unbeaten start to their Vanarama National League campaign, too. They’ve beaten Maidenhead, Chesterfield and Aldershot. Their most recent league game was a draw with Bromley, and they subsequently sit third in the table.
