Urgent: Can you find Alty somewhere to train?

Email

Newly-promoted Altrincham are determined to make their mark on the Vanarama National League but urgently need a helping hand to give them the best chance of hitting the ground running when the season starts in just over a fortnight.

Preparation is everything to manager Phil Parkinson and his players, but they are currently without a training venue for their all-important Thursday night sessions, following news that Manchester Health Academy will be closed until next year.

Their need is for a fully-floodlit 3g pitch with changing room and showers each Thursday evening for 90-120 minutes, between 6.30 and 9pm, anywhere in Cheshire or Greater Manchester.

Do you have access to any such facility, or do you know anyone who might be able to oblige and assist the club with an issue that could be crucial to the team’s prospects in non-League’s top flight?

Considering how important a flat playing surface is for the free-flowing passing style favoured by Parkinson and his squad, the Alty boss is loath to train at The J.Davidson Stadium in the autumn and winter months and risk churning up the pitch, less than 48 hours before a Saturday match day.

It is, however, becoming increasingly difficult to source somewhere suitable away from the ground in the current climate of Covid-19 restrictions, leading to the club reaching out to the public and appealing for help finding an outdoor space they can use every Thursday from next month onwards.

‘Finding training venues midweek is challenging at the best of times in Trafford and Cheshire, but the restrictions and protocols placed on many venues – commercial and academic – have vastly reduced the options available to us to find an alternative solution to MHA,’ said director of football Rob Esteva.

‘We have contacted over 50 different venues so far without luck. If anybody out there is aware of any floodlit venues available on a Thursday evening, have any contacts or even any block bookings which we could potentially take in the short term, please get in touch via the contact form and we’ll follow up.’

So, can anyone come to our aid and provide a service that will directly contribute to the team’s chances of meeting a new challenge head-on this coming season and continuing an eye-catching success story under Parkinson and his assistant Neil Sorvel?

If you can, please contact us now. You’ll be doing the Robins a huge favour.
