After heavy rain in recent days, and another downpour overnight, Altrincham's Buildbase FA Trophy tie with Chester has been switched to the Deva Stadium.
Much as the Robins wanted to proceed as planned and take on their Cheshire derby rivals at The J.Davidson Stadium tomorrow afternoon, it became increasingly apparent the elements were against them and would force a rethink.
Persistent rain in the Altrincham area on Wednesday and yesterday, followed by a torrential downpour through the night, made another postponement look increasingly likely.
With more rain falling this morning, and forecast to continue through the day and into the evening, it was felt prudent to explore changing the venue to ensure the tie went ahead and to guard against a worsening fixture backlog having a detrimental effect on the team's prospects in the Vanarama National League later in the season.
After consultations with Chester and the Football Association, both gave their consent to the third round tie being switched to the Deva Stadium, with the kick-off remaining at 3pm.
The game will be played behind closed doors, as it would have been at The J.Davidson Stadium.
