Altrincham Football Club are today launching a new fundraising initiative to part-fund the planned overhaul of The J.Davidson Stadium pitch and drainage systems.
Aptly named ‘Pitch In’, fans and businesses are being offered the opportunity to support a number of unique fundraising opportunities; these include an Indiegogo Crowdfunder with tiered donation perks, and a selection of physical events to say farewell to the current playing surface.
In a message to fans, Alty co-chairman Lawrence Looney provided an update on costing and outlined what can be expected in return for contributions, saying:
‘It’s impossible to overstate the relevance and importance of this project to our prospects of continuing to flourish under Phil and Neil. That came across loud and clear during recent contract talks with them.
Of all the topics on the table, the one that mattered most to them was the pitch and doing something about ongoing problems that have come to a head this season. It was their main concern, which says everything about their desire to keep driving us forward.
We have to provide them with a surface befitting the playing style that has brought us so much success over the past four seasons, and we will.
We will deliver over the coming months, and the hope is work will be finished in time for the players to step out on to a pristine, brand new pitch from the start of next season. It will be tight, and if it needs a little longer to bed in, so be it. It has to be right.
Either way, it’s going to cost. We are looking at £180,000 to ensure drainage will no longer be a problem and we have a surface that will remain playable in all but winter’s worst excesses.
A grant from the Football Foundation is on its way, but there will still be a sizeable shortfall that needs addressing. To that end, a funding committee has been diligently working behind the scenes to generate ideas, but throughout all their deliberations, we have stayed true to a promise we made to you all last year.
As you will recall, we came to you for help more than once, when lockdown threatened our very existence, and were blown away each time by a level of generosity and care for your club that kept us afloat through the most trying of circumstances.
Heartfelt though our appreciation was, we felt we couldn’t keep going down the same path and asking you to dig deep. Lockdown was having a detrimental effect on everyone, and it didn’t sit right with us as a club to keep turning to you with a plea to help prop us up.
So a decision was taken. No more requests for donations, unless the need was real and urgent. Even then, no more giving without being rewarded. Anyone parting with cash to support an appeal will get something in return, and that’s how it is with this scheme.
Full details are outlined further down in this article, but there are some exciting incentives on offer, not least the chance to play on a pitch graced by a generation of Alty greats before it is dug up and even experience being a club director for a day.
The playing opportunities include five-a-side and full-scale games and both come complete with entry to the home changing room, where you just might hang your coat on the same peg used by John King or some other past Alty luminary before stepping out on to the hallowed turf.
There will be a nostalgic feel to being director for a day, too, with pre-match refreshments laid out on the same iconic solid oak table once used by Noel White for monthly board meetings followed by a seat in the directors’ box for the game.
These are unmissable rewards, and don’t forget, because there is no cost element for the club, every penny you donate will go straight into the pitch fund. There’s plenty more, besides the ones I’ve mentioned, so please have a look and see what takes your eye.
This is another big commitment by the club that demonstrates the scale of our ambition - another example, you could say, of how we want to be pitch-perfect in all we do.’

As a thank you for your contribution we are offering an incredible experience to be guests of the Directors at one of first team fixtures in the 2021/22 season. This is for up to two guests and can be for any game of the league season depending on availability.
